Richard Carl Dabrowski (Dick Dabrowski, known in the family as Kip), 77, resident of Groton, MA, passed away peacefully the afternoon of October 29, 2025.
Richard was born in Laconia, NH, and grew up in Concord, MA. After graduating (Cum Laude) from Tabor Academy (Marion, MA) and the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, NC) and working for a time in Boston, he purchased Shaker Workshops, a small furniture company located in Arlington. The firm produced measured reproductions of original Shaker pieces from museum and private collections, which it sold through its mail-order catalogs and Shaker museum gift shops. He retired as president of Shaker Workshops in December 2019, having served in that position for nearly 40 years.
Richard was heavily involved in both his local community and the Shaker community in New England. He had a lifelong interest in historic preservation and undertook painstaking restorations of several colonial homes, as well as serving on the Groton Historic District commission for many years. In retirement, he enjoyed serving as a very active volunteer alongside his wife, Carolyn, at Enfield Shaker Museum in Enfield, NH, coordinating historic preservation projects. He travelled widely, with a particular fondness for Venice, Rome, and Athens. He loved his family and remained an active genealogist, meeting and connecting with extended family members across the globe.
Richard is survived by his wife Carolyn, his children and their spouses Philip (Beth) and Andrew (Ashley), grandchildren Alessandra and Pippa, and by his siblings Jane, Gina, and Marya (Mimi).
A service celebrating Richard’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 5th at 11:00 at St Andrew's Episcopal church in Ayer, MA.
The service will also be livestreamed on the St Andrews Episcopal Church, Ayer, MA, YouTube channel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to the Enfield Shaker Museum, 447 NH Route 4A, Enfield, NH 03748, or St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 7 Faulkner St, Ayer, MA 01432.
