Richard Dennis Datz, known affectionately as Dick to his friends and family, was called to his eternal home on October 31, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on November 25, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA, Dick's journey through life was marked by an unwavering faith, a relentless sense of humor, and an unquenchable passion for the people and pursuits he loved.
Dick's life was a testament to the power of love and commitment. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Diane, and a loving father to his sons, R. Christopher Datz and Patrick F. Datz. His role as a grandfather to Christopher, Alex, Chloe, Reese, Clarke, and Perry was one he cherished with all his heart. The joy he found in his family was evident in every smile, every laugh, and every moment of guidance he shared.
He is predeceased by his parents, Charles J. Datz Jr. and Patricia Ann Datz and his brother Charlie J. Datz III.
Dick grew up and lived his earlier years of life in Longport, NJ. He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School in Margate, NJ and St. Augustine Prep in Richland, NJ. After graduating from LaSalle University, Dick embarked on a successful career as a Real Estate Broker. His professional life was characterized by integrity, dedication, and a genuine desire to help others achieve their dreams of homeownership. Dick's colleagues and clients often spoke of his friendly demeanor and his knack for making even the most complex transactions seem effortless.
Dick's interests were many, but none so dear to him as the game of golf. The fairways and greens were the backdrop for many of his happiest moments, whether he was playing a casual round with friends or participating in a heated competition. His passion for the game was matched only by his sense of humor, which remained with him even when the shots didn't fall as he had hoped.
Those who knew Dick would say he was the embodiment of the words funny, friendly, and passionate. His laughter was infectious, his companionship treasured, and his enthusiasm for life palpable. He approached each day as an opportunity to make a positive difference, to uplift those around him, and to savor every moment granted to him.
As we remember Dick, we are reminded of the profound impact one individual can have through a life well-lived. His was a journey filled with laughter, love, and a deep-seated belief in the goodness of people. His spirit will continue to inspire us, his memory a guiding light that encourages us to live fully and laugh often.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Dick's life on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 10AM, at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church (45 Beach City Road) on Hilton Head Island, SC.
