Richard Dean Obituary

Visit the Myers Mortuary & Cremation Services - Ogden website to view the full obituary.
Richard (Rich) Dean was born September 1, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri to Roscoe & Evelyn Dean. He attended Turner High School (in his free time!)

Rich served in the Air Force from August 1965 to January 1969. He was deployed during the Vietnam War where he served as a military police officer and dog handler. He was stationed at Hill Air Force base.

While stationed at Hill Air Force base, he met the love of his life, Lana (Banana) Iverson. To be honest he fell in love with her family before her. He realized soon after that she was his sugar momma and sealed the deal July 1st, 1971.

Rich's most enjoyment came from spending time with his wife, Lana; children (who they overpaid for): Rosie (Dan) Gonzales, Skylar (Daanyelle) Dean, and Kelsey (Kyle) Rogan, Anthony Dean (deceased) (Allie Manning), Timothy Dean (deceased).

He is survived by 10 grandchildren: Bowe (Courtney), Kylee (Dustin), Hunter (Tiffany), Jazalyn, Hollyn, Haavyn, Brady, Kensley, Willie, Penelope and 6 great grandchildren: Violette, Taven, Akiri, Boston, Kambry, and Reagan. Siblings: Vivian Shaner, Byron (Susan) Dean and cousins: Dawn (Dale) Houser, Donita Wernes; sister in-law, Lynda Mackenzie and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

He Graduated from Weber State University in 1974 with a dual degree in History and Police Science.

Rich's Hobbies include: golf, baseball, football, bowling, basketball, and coaching. He not only enjoyed playing sports, but he thrived on watching his children and grandchildren play. He had an interest in guns and teaching proper use and safety and was a devoted member to the NRA and DAV.

Later in life he was proud to be able to fulfill his lifetime dream of owning property, where he loved spending time with his "Family." He enjoyed reminiscing about good times and the wild adventurous razor rides. Rich loved his Banjo jam-out sessions where he laughed and expressed his humorous side.

Rich was the happiest when he was joking with family and friends. Rich had a unique and clever sense of humor and was what we considered our "Silly old Bear." He enjoyed coaching and teaching the youth about sportsmanship and the most effective way to do something. Rich always had his unique way of helping those he loved.

His professional goal was to be involved in law enforcement. He met this goal as a Probation and Parole Officer, Sheriff's Deputy, Police Officer and Police Chief. (Many of his friends were in disbelief when he chose Law Enforcement as his career).

One of his passions was making the correct calls in sports. He was quick to correct referee calls! Throughout his life he was loud and openly informed others of their mistakes! He was never afraid to express his opinions.

Rich was engaged in community by donating his time and money to help in making a difference.

If you were lucky enough to know Rich, then you were his "Family."

The family and Rich would like to send special thanks to: Utah Hematology Oncology (Dr. Gray, Jan Davis and staff) and George Wahlen Veteran's Home, Nurse Angela (McKay Dee) and all others who cared for our "Padre."

A gathering for family and friends will be held in Rich's honor on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. followed by his memorial service at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah. Following his service, Honors will take place at Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd., Ogden, Utah.

Rich's funeral service will be livestreamed. Please scroll down below his obituary online and click on the link to watch the funeral.
