It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Husband, Father, Grandfather Bart Lynn Murray. He passed away peacefully Saturday, September 20, 2025 at his home in Layton Utah. He was a wonderful man and a true friend to anyone that knew him.
Bart was born in
Ogden, Utah to Evon Quin and Donna Fay Murray. He was the fourth of five children, with two sisters and two brothers. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served a fulltime mission and many callings. Bart graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State University. He met his first wife Lisa Hancock, in 1981 while attending Weber State University. They had two children, Joshua and Ashlee, and later divorced. Bart then met Penny Murray (Dickamore) in 2005, and they were married July 26, 2006. Bart lovingly welcomed her three children Camille, Michelle and Colten into his life.
Bart worked for UPS from 1987 up until his retirement in September 2024. His most recent award was from the National Safety Council in 2023 – Joseph M. Kaplan Safe Driver of the year Award. Only ten drivers across the United States and Canada receive this award each year. Bart had over three million safe driven miles and was always concerned about safety and the safety of others.
Bart had a lifetime love for the Boy Scouts of America program and the young lives it helped to influence. Bart received his Eagle Scout and many other awards both as a youth and as a leader. He served in almost all positions within the program and enjoyed every moment of camping, shooting, hiking, and teaching them the skills they need in life. Many of his scouts went on to earn their Eagle Scout Awards, which further reflected his dedication and influence on these young men.
Bart loved his family. He adored his wife and they did everything together. They traveled to Antarctica, Denmark, Iceland, Hawaii, Scotland and many more places. They frequently did motorcycle trips on his BMW together and with friends. He loved watching all his children grow and become adults. He had three grandchildren Trig, Eleanor, and Brecken, whom he loved beyond words. They sure loved their Grandpa! As a family we enjoyed cruises, trips to the mountains, going out on dirt bikes and playing games at the kitchen table. Bart always had a joke or something sarcastic to say to get a reaction from his kids and grandkids.
In the more recent years he found a love for quilting and embroidery. He lovingly made his grandchildren Christmas quilts and Trick or Treat bags, each one was personalized and signed "From Grandpa". He made many beautiful quilts and wall hangings.
Bart loved to cook and bake. He was always looking for opportunities to serve his family, friends and neighbors – from delivering warm bread, to shoveling driveways – he shunned the accolades and tried to be a silent helper whenever he could.
He is survived by his wife Penny, his children Joshua Murray, Ashlee (Jake) Barlow, Michelle Hansen, and Colten Staker and his three grandchildren Trig, Eleanor and Brecken.
He is preceded in death by his parents Evon Quin and Donna Murray, his stepdaughter Camille Larkin, father in-law Albert Dickamore and mother in-law Mary Close.
Bart was a shining example of what a man should strive to be – he embodied and embraced the true meanings of the words listed in the BSA Scout Law – "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent." You'll be missed by all who had the honor of knowing you.
Would like to thank Utah Cancer Specialists Dr. Jason Stinnett and the staff for their kindness and care. Also, Refined Hospice and Home Health for coming into our home to make him comfortable.
We will have a Celebration of Life on October 10, 2025 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Evans Meadows Ward 3161 West 150 North Layton Utah.
