Richard F. "Dewey" DeLong, 82, of Gloucester, formerly of Woburn, died Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Seacoast Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester due to complications from a July 5th fall, a result of Parkinson's disease that he had been bravely fighting for years.
He was born in Woburn on July 16, 1943, son to the late Harold J. and Julia R. (Hudaba) DeLong.
He was a graduate of Woburn High School, Class of 1961. He worked for seventeen years at the former Kenney's Deli in Woburn before moving to Gloucester in 1978. He worked for several years as a machine operator at the former LePage's in Gloucester, as a janitor for eleven years at Raytheon-Bedford and for eleven years as a janitor at Masconomet Regional School District in Topsfield before retiring in 2005.
He enjoyed boating, fishing and maintaining their yard at home, as well as the company of their beloved cat Juli.
He is survived by his companion of 47 years, Irene "Renie" (Mackey) Skillen; nephews, James, Paul, John and David DeLong of Woburn and Kevin DeLong of Methuen; grandnephews and grandnieces, James, Michael and Jessica DeLong and Julia Kalivas; and great-grandnephew and niece, Lucas and Charlee Kalivas.
He was predeceased by his brother, Harold J. DeLong Jr., and sister, Carole DeLong.
There will be no services. Ashes will be scattered at a later date. Kindly omit flowers (allergies).
