Richard Bemiss DeVore

Richard Bemiss DeVore, 81, of Erie, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, August 8th, 2024, at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. He was born in Erie at Hamot Hospital on June 12, 1943, a son of the late Richard V. and Jane Bemiss DeVore.
Richard was a 1961 graduate of Harbor Creek High School, an Eagle Scout in the Order of the Arrow, and a 1965 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Agricultural Business. Richard worked for the National Bank of North East for 2 years before he began his 37 years of service in the IRS. He served in the Army Reserves in the heavy mortar squad and with personnel intelligence. Richard was a member of the Ancient Masonic Order of Alfred the Great, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and North East Lodge #399 F&AM.
Richard was a man who would help anyone who asked and loved to share all he knew with others. He was a man of many talents. If he didn't know how to do something, he would figure it out. He loved to mow everyone's lawn. He was truly the patriarch of his family and led them with so much love. Richard was so good at bringing his family together through planned vacations. He loved being a snowbird in their beautiful house in Cape Coral.
Besides his parents, Richard V. and Jane DeVore, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Charles Young; his mother-in-law, Kathleen Young; his two sisters-in-law: Mary Ann DeVore and Ann DeVore; and his brothers-in-law: Kevin Young and Greg Young.
Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sally Ann DeVore (Young); their three children: Brian DeVore (Catherine), Dr. Philip DeVore (Bridget), and Janeen Stablewski (Dave); twelve grandchildren: Gabe DeVore (Grace), Thomas DeVore, Nicholas Gialloreto (Sarah), Jennifer Gialloreto, Harrison DeVore, Mitchell DeVore, Connor DeVore, Ava Stablewski, Declan Conant, Aubrey Stablewski, Cole Conant, and Crosby Conant; two great grandchildren: Zahra Gialloreto and Amira Rose Gialloreto; his sister, Kathy Hazelton (Jim); his brother, Doug DeVore; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral & Cremation Services Harborcreek, 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd.) on Monday, August 12th from 3 PM until the time of the memorial service at 6 PM with Rev. Keith McGarvey officiating. A Masonic service will be held at 5:45 PM. Richard will be privately laid to rest at North East Cemetery.
