Richard J. Foessett Jr., 75, of Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 18, 2025, after his courageous battle with ALS. Born on September 7, 1949, in Erie, he was the son of the late Richard J. and Mary T. (Driscoll) Foessett.
A graduate of McDowell High School, Class of 1967, Richard went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Gannon College in 1971. He served honorably as a Platoon Leader in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1972 to 1976.
Richard began his professional career as the first sort supervisor for United Parcel Service (UPS) in Erie from 1969 to 1970. He then joined General Electric Company, where he remained a dedicated employee for nearly four decades, retiring in May 2009. During his tenure, he managed a wide range of product lines and traveled the world supporting GE's industrial processes and innovations.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Donna Fairbrother, and by his former wife and cherished friend, Patricia Swanson.
Richard was a devoted father to Mary Kathleen Vaughn (John), Richard Foessett III (Melissa), John Foessett, Donnell Foessett, Jessica Gomolchak (Daniel), Tracy Szklenksi (Paul), and Melissa DeBello (Jeffrey). He was the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Janet Petrosky (Charles), Joy Zamierowski (Phillip), Thomas Foessett (Rosemarie), and Joel Foessett (Gwen).
Richard will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his quiet strength, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of service, integrity, and wisdom.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice and Forestview Skilled Nursing Center for their compassionate care, and to the ALS Foundation for their continued support and provision of supplies during Richard's journey.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral & Cremation Services Harborcreek, 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd.) on Saturday, July 26th from 2 to 4 PM, at which time military honors will be rendered. My deepest sympathy to the family. I grew up with Richard as he and his family lived behind my family and we went to the same schools in Millcreek. May you find peace and comfort during this difficult time and know that his memories will live forever in your hearts.

I am sorry to hear about Richard. I graduated with him from McDowell in 1967. The last time I saw him was at our 50th Class Reunion and sat beside him and talked about the good old days at Westlake and McDowell.
