Richard Howard Eichelberger, a dedicated public servant and beloved family man, passed away on February 14, 2025. Born in Springfield, Ohio, Richard built his career in his hometown before retiring to Melbourne, Florida, where he continued to build lasting relationships throughout his community.
Before serving as the Chief Building Official for the city of Springfield, Richard established himself as a respected home builder, bringing quality craftsmanship and integrity to every project he undertook. His passion for building extended beyond his professional life into his personal pursuits, where he was an accomplished woodworker who found joy in creating with his hands.
Above all else, Richard treasured time spent with his family. He leaves behind his loving wife, Carolyn Eichelberger, and their three children: Rick (Laura) Eichelberger, Randy (Anna) Eichelberger, and Kristi (Timothy) Morris. His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren: Courtney Eichelberger, Carly Eichelberger, Janelle Morris, and Ian Eichelberger. He is also survived by his brothers Dale Eichelberger and Roger (Brenda) Eichelberger, as well as his sister-in-law Marianne (Jim) Gregory and many nieces and nephews.
Richard's craftsmanship, dedication to public service, and devotion to family have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched through his work, his artistry, and his love.
A private burial will be held with family.
