Richard Fancher, 78, of Columbia, MO, passed away on March 5, 2025, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. Born on June 26, 1946, in Binghamton, NY, he was the son of Jack Fancher and Ellen Wormsley.
Richard had a deep commitment to his family and community. He attended LaSalle High School, Heidelberg University, and Buffalo State College, where he developed a strong foundation of education and personal values. Throughout his life, he was known for his infectious sense of humor, an unwavering work ethic, and his love for helping others.
He dedicated much of his career to the University of Missouri, where he retired after many years of service. Outside of his professional life, Richard's passion for leadership and mentorship was evident in his work as a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts. His involvement in the community also extended to sports, where he was a dedicated football coach for the Grand Island Falcons and a semi-professional player.
Richard loved spending time with his family, whether it was on travel adventures, enjoying his hobby of gardening, or cooking delicious meals. His love for dogs was one of his most endearing qualities, and they were often by his side.
Preceded in death by his brother Jack Fancher and his wife Elizabeth Fancher, Richard is survived by his sister, Sandy Fancher of Rochester, NY, and his four children: Richard Fancher II, Jerrett Fancher, Joshua Fancher, and Megan Van Dyke.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local animal shelter or charity in Richard's honor.
