Richard Fitzmaurice Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alavon Direct Cremation Service - South Daytona on Dec. 13, 2025.
Richard Allen Fitzmaurice, 77 of South Daytona, Florida was welcomed into the arms of Jesus after a long and very courageous battle with COPD. Richard passed surrounded by his family and caring nurses at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach. He was born December 27, 1947 in Cohoes, New York, the son of the late Leo and Marion Harpinger Primeau.
Rich was a testament to a selfless devotion, dedicating himself to countless individuals with addiction and homelessness as well as at risk youths in New York. He was a manager at Star Shelter in Daytona Beach for homeless families and Family Renew Community for families in transition where he received the first employee of the year award because of his deep commitment to helping Family Renew Community become a better place.
Rich loved his country and served in the United States in the Vietnam War. As a multitalented man he studied artistry and airbrushed signs for businesses. One of his many talents was making gifts for friends and t-shirts for boys wrestling in Lasalle in Albany, New York.
Rich's biggest gift was his huge loving heart, witty humor and the desire to have a great time. He loved riding motorcycles and was nicknamed "The Mayor of Bike Week". His picture was taken and published int he newspaper many times riding his bike in his famous top hat.
Rich was husband to Tina Fitzmaurice for 30 years: father to Melissa Fitzmaurice King (Joe) and Richard FItzmaurice Jr.; grandfather to Liam, Carter and Harper, he was found of their mother Brittany too.
A family hosted Celebration of Life will be held January 10, 2026 at 11:00am, Family Worship Center, 4425 S. Ridgewood Avenue, Port Orange, Florida 32127. There will be a livestream for those unable to attend in person.
His wife Tina would like to extend her sincere gratitude to our pastors and church family at Family Worship Center who have supported us through this long and difficult Journey. We would also like to extend our thanks to the dedicated nurses and staff at Halifax Hospital Daytona Beach who always treated him with respect, kindness and whom many became his friend, especially the 8th floor Intensive Care. And not to forget a special thank you to South Daytona Fire and Rescue Department who gave it their all to save his life.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made in his honor to a shelter or homeless assistance program in your nearby community or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
