FLECK---Richard M. Fleck, MGySgt. USMC Retired, 97, of Jacksonville, FL was called home by our Lord and passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday June 18, 2024 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1649 Kingsley Ave., Orange Park, FL 32073. Family members will greet friends immediately prior to and following the Mass at the church.
Born on May 17, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY Richard was one of 12 children and was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Dorothy Fleck, and his son, Dennis P. Fleck. At age 17 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps shortly after the end of World War II. A proud veteran he served 27 years, retiring with the distinguished rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant (MGySgt). He served in Korea and Vietnam. After his military service he worked 20 years and retired from the US Post Office in Jacksonville, FL.
He is profoundly missed by his wife, Evelyn, the love of his life and the twinkle in his eye for over 76 years. He will be forever lovingly remembered as a devoted father to 9 children, grandfather to 19, and great-grandfather to 19. His family will miss him deeply.
He is survived by 8 children, Teresa Tolliver (Dave), Patricia Dacus (James), Richard Fleck (Valerie), Raymond Fleck (Brenda), Dennis Fleck, deceased (Audrey), Edward Fleck, Robert Fleck (Annie), Catherine Barrett (Bill), and Greg Fleck (Deborah). His surviving siblings are Barbara Hirschfield, Judy Geery and Dolores Fleck, Raymond Fleck Jr., Leonard Fleck and Walter Fleck. He was preceded in death by his brothers Kenneth Fleck, George Fleck, Louis Fleck, Thomas Fleck, and James Fleck. Numerous loving nieces and nephews will cherish his memory.
His passion was traveling with his trusted navigator Evelyn at his side throughout this great country. They made many cross country trips traveling north, south, east and west and all places in between. Their travels included trips to Alaska and Hawaii, and travelling abroad to England, Belgium, Scotland, and Italy. He loved visiting with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor, a quick wit and stellar one-liners.
Richard was a devout Catholic. His faith and family were most important; he lived a generous and grateful life. He served others throughout his life and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Orange Park, FL.
