Richard Fousek Obituary

Colonel Richard "Rich" Fousek, United States Army (Retired), passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on August 27, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, he dedicated his life to service, both to his country and to his family.

Richard served honorably in the U.S. Army for over 30 years as an Ordnance Officer including tours of duty in Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm. He earned the respect of his fellow soldiers through his leadership, integrity, and devotion, retiring at the rank of Colonel after a distinguished career. Post military, Richard had a successful career with General Dynamics as Program Manager for the Abrams Tank program.

While Richard's military career was marked by honor and devotion to his country, his greatest pride and joy came from his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Nancy, and his children: Barbara Janese (Edward), Sharon Kramer (Quentin), Greg Fousek (Jennifer), and Steven Fousek (Joanna). Each child brought light to his life and embodied the enduring love he passed down through generations.

"Pop Pop" was the cherished grandfather of Anthony Janese (Julie), Andria Kanalley (Brian), Madison Kramer, Lauren Kramer, Alison Fousek, Stephen Sauliner (Ashley), Amanda Taylor (Bertraum), Tori Shamblin (Hunter), Logan Fousek, and Isabel Fousek.

He was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to Jack, Cole, Emmalyn, Bennett, Aubrie, Christian, Penelope, Sebastian, Benjamin, Joseph, Isaac, Naomi, and Tanner.

As the eldest of six children, Richard cherished his brothers and sisters deeply and held a special place in the lives of his many nieces and nephews, who knew him as a beloved uncle. A true storyteller, he carried a strong passion for honoring his family legacy and preserving his rich Czechoslovakian heritage, often reminding those around him of the importance of tradition, history, and connection across generations.

Full military honors will be rendered at his interment at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery on October 4th. The family welcomes flowers at Moore Funeral Home and, for those who prefer, contributions in Richard's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Richard Fousek will be remembered for his service to his nation, his devotion to family, and the values he instilled in all who knew him. Humble, loving, and generous, he built a beautiful legacy through the family he cherished most, and touched the lives of everyone he met.
