Richard L. Free IV, 44, a resident of Lake Barrington, passed away November 2, 2025, at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL. He was born April 1, 1981 in Chicago, IL to Richard III and Frances Free.

Richard proudly served with the Elgin Police Department, where he dedicated himself to protecting and serving others. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2025 and was deeply respected by his colleagues for his leadership and compassion.

Above all, Richard will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, cherished son, brother, uncle, and loyal friend to many.

Richard is survived by his wife of 10 years, Claudia Free, his children Alessandra Free and Richie Free V, his parents Richard and Frances Free, and his sister Lisa (John) Evans, and his beloved nephews, Jake and Parker. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard and Lorraine Free, Alois and Bertha Hirtz, and his uncle Louis Hirtz.

A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, November 6, 2025, at St. Mary of Annunciation 22333 W. Erhart Rd. Mundelein, IL 60060 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, November 7, 2025, at St. Mary of Annunciation at 10:00am. Interment will follow the mass at St. Mary Cemetery next to the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family using Zelle and this email [email protected].
