Richard Clinton Garrison, 70, of Decatur, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 28, 1954, in Decatur, Texas, Richard was the son of Billy and Barbara (Stem) Garrison. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1972 and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Business from Texas Tech University in 1976.
On January 12, 1980, Richard married the love of his life, DeLona Ivy, in Decatur. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with faith, family, and community.
A lifelong member of First Baptist Church Decatur, Richard was a familiar and cherished presence in the church choir, where he sang for more than 40 years. His faith was the foundation of his life, and his commitment to his church and community never wavered.
He was also known for his wonderful sense of humor. Richard had a unique talent for making people laugh and could effortlessly create a funny song on the spot. Above all, he was deeply devoted to his family and especially cherished his role as “Peepaw.” He found tremendous joy in spending time with his six grandchildren and was a constant presence in their lives—rarely missing a football game, tennis match, or dance competition. A devoted Decatur Eagle fan, Richard loved the excitement of Friday night lights and was always cheering on his team. Along with his steady support and encouragement, he was never shy about offering a bit of honest critique on how they could do better—always delivered with love and the intention to help them grow. These moments remain among his family’s most treasured memories.
Professionally, Richard was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He was employed by Poco Graphite for over 29 years, serving as a Senior Specialist in Production Planning. Remarkably, he continued working full-time up until the last month of his life.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Barbara Garrison.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, DeLona Ivy Garrison; daughters Curren Wicker and husband Brandt, and Ryan Brown and husband Ashley; grandchildren Camden, Carson, and Caylen Wicker, and Kynlie, Kampbell, and Kortlen Brown, all of Decatur; father-in-law Richard Ivy of Decatur; brother-in-law Rick Ivy and wife Shelby of Ponder; sister-in-law Sherry Ivy of Decatur; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at First Baptist Church Decatur, with burial to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, May 9, from 6–8 p.m., also at First Baptist Church Decatur.
Richard will be remembered for his faith, love for his family, and the warmth he showed to those closest to him. He will be greatly missed.
405 E. Main, Decatur, TX 76234
