Richard Germano Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home - Poughkeepsie on Feb. 9, 2026.
Richard A. Germano, age 95, of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 5, 2026. He felt the constant, loving presence of his family throughout his illness.

He is the son of Rocco and Rose Germano and was one of ten brothers and four sisters.

A proud veteran, Richard served in the United States Marine Corps where he embraced the discipline and camaraderie the military brought to him.

He married Shirley A. Fisher, the love of his life, on April 25, 1954. The two were inseparable for 60 years raising a family and working together managing rental properties. Shirley predeceased him in 2014.

Nothing meant more to Richard than having his family around him. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and he had very special relationships with each of them.

Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was known for his love of gardening, baking and cooking. His hospitality, home-grown vegetables and homemade bread and treats were favorites among his family and friends. He had a glass of Chianti with ginger ale each day and listened to his favorite songs on Alexa for hours. 'Music is Medicine' was a favorite quote of his. He had many others!

Everyone he knew and everyone he met adored him instantly and forever.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his children Sandra (Steven) Dolce of Stanfordville, Richard (Anita) Germano of Hyde Park, Allan Germano of Millbrook. Grandchildren, Marissa (Tyler) French, Michael (Sam) Polito, Kai (Paddy) Coleman and Treya Germano. Great grandchildren Bradley and Riley French, Arlo and Fia Coleman. He is survived by his brothers Raymond and William and his sister Irene.

Richard was predeceased by his brothers Anthony, Charly, Robert, John, Vincent, Ernest, Lawrence and sisters Marie, Helen and Doris.

The family thanks Hudson Valley Hospice for their care and compassion and asks that donations be made in Richard's honor.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Funeral services are scheduled for 11AM on Friday, February 13, 2026 at the same location. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
