Richard "Mike" Godsey, 83, passed away at home on Monday morning, December 23, 2024. He was born in Fort Worth, TX on June 19, 1941, to Richard and Evelyn Godsey. He had attended First Christian Church of Blytheville for many years.
Mike started out in the small engine, tire repair shop. His Dad taught him early starting at the age of six. This was a trade he worked well into adulthood. He loved fishing, whether going by himself, or taking a son or grandson along. Mike has served Mississippi County as an EMT since the early 1970's. His badge #568 proves he's been around a long time current numbers are five digits! Mike served Mississippi County as a deputy coroner (2 years) and as elected coroner (16 years) for a total of 18 years. He was one of the founders of Blytheville Emergency Squad. Mike was always available for the Squad. He never said, "No", even when he was hurting. He was one of six drivers that won an opportunity to drive in a demolition derby. He lost the race, was sore for a few days, but had a great time! He loved helping and teaching first aide/CPR for the Red Cross. Bobby said he taught him CPR when he was three! He enjoyed taking his dog, Baby, for rides. He also enjoyed going to Branson to the Dixie Stampede.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; and his parents.
He is survived by his significant other, Donna Tovar, of Blytheville; two sons, David and Sonja Godsey, and Bobby and Kimberly Godsey, all of Gosnell; two step-daughters, Tammy Tovar, of Blytheville, and Stacy Akers, of Paragould; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lentz, of Fort Worth, TX; best friend, Bernie (Bernard) Beecy; and a host of friends that he has served in some way across Mississippi County. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 27th, at 1:00 p.m. in Carney Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mitchell King officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Carney Cemetery.
