Richard Lee Gross Jr. passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2025, peacefully in Fort Worth, Texas with his family by his side.
Richard was born on December 2, 1947, in Port Arthur, Texas to his parents, Richard Lee and Lura Sue Gross. Richard attended Port Neches-Groves High School and graduated in 1966. Richard married Rebekah Paulette McKusker on October 19, 1968 at Val Verde Baptist Church in Groves, Texas. Richard and Rebekah lived in Groves area for 51 years and were members of Val Verde Baptist Church. Richard served in the United States Air National Guard from 1968-1969 and upon discharge Richard worked at Texaco Oil Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas for 50 years until his retirement in December 2019.
Richard enjoyed Friday night football and rarely missed watching his beloved Port Neches- Groves Indians play football, he kept his season tickets for several years even after his sons played football for the Indians. Richard and Rebekah moved to Argyle, Texas to be closer to family and enjoy retirement. Richard loved serving the Lord and was always willing to share the plan of salvation to everyone, he and Rebekah continued their service of the Lord and joined Heritage Baptist Church in Haslet, Texas, when they moved to Argyle.
Richard loved his family and there was nothing that made him smile more than to spend time with his 3 grandchildren and spoil them as much as he could. Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rebekah Gross, his beloved sons, Eric Gross and his wife, Aimee of Fort Worth, Texas, and Ryan Blake Gross of Houston, Texas, his cherished grandchildren, Shelbee, Garrett and Avril. He memory will have a special place in the heart of his siblings, sister, Tawana Lee of McDonough, Georgia and brother, Dr. James Gross and his wife Dianna of Conroe, Texas. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Lura Gross.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, August 1, 2025 in the chapel of Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 5601 39th Street, Groves, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Val Verde Baptist Church, 3900 Cleveland Avenue, Groves, Texas, with a graveside service immediately following funeral service to be held at Oak Bluff Memorial Cemetery in Port Neches, Texas.
