Richard C. Gulbin, 83, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family, on Thursday, October 5, 2023. He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia B. Gulbin; his parents, Charles & Mary Gulbin; his sister & brother-in-law, Joan & John Nezelek; and special niece, Angela. He is survived by his six children and their spouses, Lisa & Patrick Kelly, Richard Gulbin, Jr., Kathleen & Matthew O'Donnell, Patricia & Scott Carpenter, Timothy & Kristy Gulbin, and Christina & Samuel Maltbie; 17 grandchildren, Michelle (Paul) Griffin, Christopher and Ryan Kelly, Tanner (Elise) Moss, Elijah Moss, Hunter and Levi Gulbin, Tucker O'Donnell, Brittany, Megan and Jacob Carpenter, Kailee, Madison and Emma Gulbin, Alexandra, Olivia and Carli Maltbie; 3 great-grandchildren, TJ, Mila and Kinsley; several special nieces and nephews. Richard was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity. He graduated from Johnson City High School in 1957 and Colgate University in 1961. After college, he dedicated his entire career to education and working with youth. He was a social studies teacher, high school coach and principal; spending time in many school districts: Vestal, Susquehanna Valley, Seton Catholic, Norwich and Johnson City. Richard took great pride in the schools he worked for, by sharing his passion for learning and teaching with both students and faculty over the years. Although good at what he did, he cared deeply about a person first, then about the job. In addition to the many years in education, he spent 30+ years running The Boathouse Restaurant in DeRuyter, NY. This was his happy place where he loved to simply sit on the back deck, look at the lake and listen to the stories told by many. He worked a little, fished when he could and always welcomed family & friends. Every weekend was filled with chicken tenders, laughter and the sound of Brown Eyed Girl playing in the background. Richard had other simple pleasures in life such as: belonging to the JC 50-Year Club, traveling to Tioga Downs, eating breakfast after Sunday Mass and weekly card club gatherings with just the guys. Richard's selflessness and generosity touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on the community he called home. He was a humble and genuine man who would often remind his family to "keep the faith" and that he will always "love you more". A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 13, at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St., Binghamton. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Bednarsky Funeral Home, Inc., 96 Glenwood Ave., Binghamton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

My condolences to the entire Gulbin family. So many great memories spending time with Rich, Tim and the rest of the family fishing and spending time at the lake. He was a caring and giving man with the patience of a Saint! He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
