On Sunday, May 11th, Richard (Dick) Hagstrom, 92, passed away at home and entered his eternal home in heaven. Richard was born on June 23, 1932 in Putnam, CT, and was the son of Signe (Anderson) and Gustave Hagstrom of Thompson, CT. After high school, Dick attended the University of Connecticut where he earned his bachelors degree in Civil Engineering. Dick served in the United States Air Force for three years as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War. In 1954, Dick worked for Life Insurance and Marketing Research Association (LIMRA) in
Springfield, MA for 13 years. In 1976, Dick founded Hagstrom Consulting, drawing on his expertise in organizational leadership to help people find their talents and abilities to pursue a meaningful career path. Dick worked with organizations and individuals creating profiles, consulting, and speaking, using his Green-Light Concept". Dick guided many to more fulfilling lives and careers, receiving appreciation and gratitude for his impactful work even after retirement.
Dick was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Springfield for over 60 years. Dick used his gifts teaching Sunday School, initially for youth and college-aged students, and later for adults, strengthening every persons walk with Jesus with Biblical teaching. Dicks faith was evident in his quiet service, through home visits or praying for others. A longtime resident of East Longmeadow, Dick with his wife Marion hosted many dinners and family gatherings and were active walking about their Barrie Road neighborhood.
Dick will be missed by his wife of 66 years, Marion (White) Hagstrom, his son, Douglas (Karen), daughter, Kristen (Roger), grandchildren Bethany Grace Christiansen (Walter), Corinne Proctor, and Hannah Proctor, and Ethan (Molly) Hagstrom, Amanda Hagstrom, and two great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Emerson Hagstrom. His son Scott predeceased him.
Visiting hours with the family will be at 3 pm, followed by the memorial service at 4 pm on Friday, May 16th at the Evangelical Covenant Church at 915 Plumtree Road in Springfield. A reception will be held following the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
