Obituary: Richard S. Hallstrom "Strummer" Waterbury, VT Age: 77 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard S. Hallstrom, lovingly known as "Strummer," who departed peacefully at home on December 27th. Born in St. Albans, VT, Strummer called Waterbury home for most of his life. Strummer was a man of dedication, integrity, and quiet strength. He attended Waterbury schools and went on to serve as a superintendent for Wright and Morrissey Construction for 23 years, earning the respect of his colleagues and community. A proud veteran, he served in the Vermont National Guard for eight years. Strummer found joy in hunting and fishing, sharing tales of his adventures with friends and family. He also cherished time spent exploring Vermont with close friends, discovering historical markers, covered bridges, and Masonic lodges. Among his many accomplishments, he was incredibly proud of earning his 50-year pin from the Masonic Lodge, a tribute to his enduring dedication to brotherhood and service. Strummer is predeceased by his parents, Eveline (Croft) and Louis Hallstrom Sr., and his brother, Louis Hallstrom Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Nancy (Bailey); his children, Tammy (Chris) Miron of Newton, NH, and Rich (Beth) Hallstrom of Barre Town, VT; and his cherished grandchildren, Hannah and Mallory Miron, and Jenna and Julia Hallstrom. He also leaves behind his dear sisters, Sandra Gagne and Marion Farnham, along with lifelong friends Alan and Beverly Young, Robert "Bob" Monguer, and Gary Russell. A celebration of Strummer's life will be held in April, with details to follow.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Central Vermont Medical Center dialysis unit, Dr. Steinthorsson for his kind care and shared hunting tales, and the Waterbury Ambulance Team for their unwavering support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Strummer's memory may be made to the Masonic Lodge [Winooski Lodge #49 F&AM, PO Box 186 - Waterbury, VT, 05676] or Waterbury Ambulance Sevice [ PO Box 95, Waterbury Center, VT 05677] or visit www.waterburyambulance.org.
