Richard Paul Hammond, 58, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by loved ones, on the afternoon of April 24 in Huntersville, North Carolina after a courageous and inspirational four-year battle with appendix cancer. Rich was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on November 17, 1965, to Roger and Patricia (Gardner) Hammond.
Rich graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1984 and was a varsity football player and member of the 1981 New Jersey State Football Championship team. In 1983 he met Robin (Condon) Hammond, his high school sweetheart, and they began their 40-year love story. They were married for 33 years, which was not nearly long enough.
Rich had a successful sales career for several consumer-packaged goods companies over the years including Unilever, Nabisco, Heinz, Del Monte, Rubbermaid, and Advantage. His current role was Director of Grocery/Specialty for Edgewell Personal Care. His career sent Rich and his family to several areas in the United States including the New York metropolitan area, Rochester, New York, Richmond, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and finally to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2004.
Rich was an avid sports fan, enjoying golf, football, basketball, baseball, auto racing and personal fitness. He loved his family, friends, and two golden retrievers, Lexie and Bella, deeply, and he was happiest when he was spending time with them.
Rich was very proud of his loving family, who brought him so much joy and meant everything to him. He is survived by his loving wife, Robin, his devoted sons, Justin, of Huntersville, and Michael (Syara), of Hixson, Tennessee, a grandchild on the way, brother Scott (Holly) Hammond of Newark, Delaware, sister-in-law Catherine (Richard) Cavagnaro, of Blue Ridge, Georgia, parents Roger and Patricia Hammond, of Hackettstown, New Jersey, mother-in-law Patricia Condon of Denver, North Carolina, and several loving nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, James Condon. His family will keep him close in their hearts until they meet again.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Monday, April 29, 2024 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Rd., Huntersville. A memorial service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel beginning at 4:00 pm. For those that cannot attend in person, the service will be livestreamed via the link below the obituary at www.KepnerFH.com.The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staffs at Atrium Health and VIA Health Partners.
