Chip graduated from Colgate University with a bachelor's degree in sociology. He began his professional career as a management trainee at Inland Steel before transitioning into banking. Over the years, he worked for several notable institutions, including Wells Fargo, Fidelity Bank, First Fidelity Bank, First Union, and ultimately retired as a Senior Vice President at Bank of America.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Richard was an avid golfer. In his retirement, he served as the chair of the Equity Members Committee of his former country club and also served as a board member for the Pelican Landing Community Association. His love for the game of golf was matched only by his commitment to his community and family.
Richard is survived by his wife of 43 years, Virginia Smollen Hanft; his son, William of Seattle, Washington; his daughter-in-law Cristy and his cherished granddaughters, Madeline and Lily. He was predeceased by his brothers, John D. Hanft Jr. and Thomas P. Hanft.
A private funeral service will be held in his honor.

Arrangements are being handled by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, Family Owned Since 1978.

Chip hired me at Bank of America in 2006. I worked with him for years and would always seek his advice and counsel. He was a sounding board for me during my career and a true friend. I am grateful for knowing him and truly appreciate the time spent talking about work, golf and life. He helped me through some really rough times and supported me without judgement. He was a good man and will be missed.

I had the honor of working alongside Richard for many years at Bank of America.
He was a respected team player that took pride in taking on difficult challenges and dispatching issues with grace and fervor.
Most importantly, he was the type of man that made a difference among his colleagues...more than work.
We pray for his family in their time of grief...for the Lord´s peace and comfort.
