Obituary for Richard E. Hann (1939-2025)
Richard E. Hann, age 85, a long time resident of King of Prussia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Pickering Manor in Newtown, PA. Born in Philadelphia, Richard was the son of the late Elwood Franklin Hann and the late Dorothy Matilda (nee Naegele) Hann, the devoted husband of the late Alice Marie (nee Ryan) Hann, the loving father of Christine Marie Krause (Andy) of Bensalem, Michelle Suess (Ted) of King of Prussia and Keith William Hann (Cindy) of Lakewood, CO, the proud grandfather of Brady Hann, Jacob Hann, T.J. Suess, Michael Suess and Liam Hann and the brother of Donald Hann (Carol). In addition, Richard is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and his brother-in-law Edward F. McCann (the late Charlotte) of Drexel Hill.
Richard, a well-educated man, was a graduate of Lansdowne-Aldan High School, and then Millersville University of Pennsylvania, earning his Bachelor of Education. He went on to earn his Master of Education in Math and Science at Temple University and finally his Master of Computer Science from Villanova University. He began his career as a Math teacher in the Great Valley School District and then went on to PJM Interconnection, LLC, where he worked in Technology supporting the Mainframe and Unix Systems until his retirement. Throughout his career he was an active member of IBM Share Users Group.
He was a long time and devout member of Mother of Divine Providence Church, where he sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister. While he was a teacher, Richard coached golf and JV basketball. In his later years he became a PIAA swim and track & field official. At Upper Merion Middle School, Mr. Hann was a volunteer tutor in Math and the kids there loved him. In his spare time, he collected Lionel trains, enjoyed family trips to the beach, watched Philadelphia & Big 10 sports and loved solving puzzles. Most of all he will be remembered as a kind man who loved his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Road, King of Prussia, PA 19406 on Monday, February 17, where his viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:50 a.m., and his Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The Family would appreciate Memorial Donations to Mother of Divine Providence Church in his name at the above address. Arrangements are by The Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home, Swedesburg, Keith J.
