Richard Haubrich Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 29, 2024.
Richard "Dick" Wayne Haubrich passed away on October 26th at Memorial Hospital in Yakima. Dick was born May 27th, 1933 to John and Glenna (Fisher) Haubrich. Dick attended Yakima High School and was offered a full-ride football scholarship to Utah State. Instead, Dick opted to join the Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne. Following his military service, he attended Yakima Valley College and went on to a career in law enforcement, initially with the Washington State Patrol, but shortly thereafter working for the City of Yakima Police Department where he retired as a Sergeant in 1985. Prior to beginning his law enforcement career, Dick met and married the love of his life, Joyce Evelyn Guffey. They were married August 16th, 1958 and were together until her passing in February of 2019. They were married 60 years. Dick and Joyce had two sons, Richard "Greg", and Wayne.
Dick was an avid sports fan and was heavily involved in Greg and Wayne's athletics, and remained just as involved with his grandchildren's sports and activities. Dick was one of the most faithful Washington State University Cougar fans and was a season ticket holder for WSU football for many years. Dick, also a big supporter of the West Valley Athletic Program, ran the chains at football games for many years. In addition, he was a founder of the West Valley Football Quarterback Club. In his younger years, Dick was also an avid golfer. He and Joyce would spend many days at their vacation home in Desert Aire golfing and entertaining the grandchildren. Dick and Joyce loved the beach and visited Cannon Beach in Oregon almost every year, often with their children and their families, as well as multiple trips to Hawaii.
Dick is survived by his sons Richard "Greg" (Victoria) Haubrich and Wayne (Angie) Haubrich, his grandchildren, Chad (Jennifer) Haubrich, Kyle Haubrich, Cameron (Kristen) Haubrich, Haley (Ellis) Cuillier, Kori Haubrich, and Keri Haubrich and great-grandchildren; Dylan, Delia and Kira Haubrich, Ellyse and Amelia Haubrich, and Kellen and Bennett Cuillier, as well as his great-nephew Preston Conrad and sister Debbi (Milo) Weishaar. He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce, parents, John and Glenna Haubrich, brother Dean Haubrich, and sister Jeanine Carlevato.
A Graveside Service will be held at West Hills Memorial Park at 11:00am, followed by a Memorial Service at West Valley Fire Station #51, 10000 Zier Road, Yakima on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024 at 1:00pm.
