YORKVILLE - Mr. Richard F. Hayes, 67, a former trustee and member of the Planning Board for the Village of Yorkville, died Sunday, October 17, 2021, at his residence. His wife and family were with him at the time of his passing.
Richard was born on August 19th, 1954 in Utica, the son of Donald J. and Dolores (Miller) Hayes and he was educated in and a graduate of Oriskany Schools. He was united in marriage to Deborah "Debbie" Roberts on February 14, 1981, and they recently celebrated 40 years of marriage this past February. Richard was employed as a counselor, first at Marcy Addiction and Treatment Center, and most recently by the McPike Addiction Treatment Center for the State of New York, retiring in 2009.
Dick, as he was known by, loved reading and golf. He was an avid golfer belonging to different area golf leagues. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren, playing sports and other activities. Western movies were his favorite and Jeopardy was his game.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Debbie; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony "Tony" and Erin Papaleo, and their children, Anthony "Tony Jr." and Sophia Papaleo of Deerfield; a daughter and her husband, Aubre' and Dan Sullivan, and their children, Kiernan and Addison Rose Louise Sullivan of Sauquoit; his father, Donald J. Hayes of Oriskany; sisters, Donna (Joe) DeBiase of West Seneca, NY, Shari (Don) Hayes-Mayer of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Janet Hayes Padilla of Cary, NC; his brothers, Kevin (Sue) Hayes of New Bern, NC and Daniel (Karen) Hayes of Pittsford, NY; nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law and his wife, Brian A. and Diane Roberts; a sister-in-law and her husband, Cynthia and Richard Abdoo; and special friends, Chubby Heburn and Scott and Joanne Austin. He was predeceased by his mother, Dolores M. Hayes on November 15, 1990; and his in-laws, Robert and Marian Roberts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parrish, with Rev. James Cesta officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the Mass from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the Mass.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes will be available at the service.
The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Alicia DeTraglia and nurses, Meg, Kathy and Lynn for their compassion and kindness shown to Richard and his family during his illness and treatments.
