Richard “Rick” Hoffman, age 71, of Dillsburg passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, while golfing on the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course. Rick was born July 24, 1952, in Roaring Springs, PA. He was married to Rita (College) Hoffman for 50 years. Since 2019 Rick and Rita have lived with their son, Rusty, his wife, Paula, and their four children, Finlay (8), Myla (6), Levi Ryan (4), and Micah (8 months) who were the love of his life. Rick was actively involved with the workings of their homestead and Ryan’s Orchard. Rick also leaves behind his sister, Pam (Dan) Brallier of Harrisburg and their daughters’ families as well as numerous cousins. Rick was preceded in death by his son, Ryan, in 2018 as well as his parents, Daniel and Shirley Hoffman, of New Enterprise, PA.
Rick graduated from Northern Bedford High School in 1970 where he lettered in four varsity sports. He attended multiple Navy electricity and electronics schools. He proudly served in the US Navy 1982 – 1988 and was onboard the USS Mississippi CGN-40. Rick worked for PHICO in Mechanicsburg until its closure then as a certified home inspector. His semi-retired employment included KOHLS of Mechanicsburg and Lowes of Carlisle.
Rick was a faithful worshipper at West Shore Free Church for many years. Rick enjoyed sports including golfing with his wife and their regular golfing couples’ group at the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course. He was an avid Penn State Football fan and enjoyed watching all levels of golf – always striving to improve his (and Rita’s) golf game.
There will be a celebration of Rick’s life at West Shore Free Church, 1345 Williams Grove Road, Mechanicsburg, PA, on January 5, 2024, with the service at 1 p.m. followed by a time of fellowship with family and friends until 4 p.m. Interment is planned for the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date.
