January 22, 1956 - July 6, 2025
Richard "Rick" S. Hoganson, 69, of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, formerly of Moorhead, died suddenly at his home on July 6, 2025.
Rick was born on January 22, 1956, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Harold and Alice Hoganson. Rick was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN and was a 1974 graduate of Moorhead High School.
On November 22, 1975, Rick married Patricia Waind at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Minnesota where they remained lifelong members. Their 49-year marriage was a testament to their deep love and commitment to each other. Pat was the joy of his life, and despite his busy schedule with projects and hobbies, she remained his greatest treasure.
Rick was an exceptional father to his two children, Katie and Adam. He cherished them deeply and took immense pride in the wonderful people they became. His love and support shaped them into the caring individuals they are today, and his legacy lives on through them.
As a grandfather, Rick brought endless joy and laughter to his granddaughters' lives. He had a special gift for curating memorable activities and adventures, from fishing expeditions to silly games that would leave everyone in stitches. His granddaughters adored him, and he treasured every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter.
Rick returned to college and obtained a degree from NDSU in Architectural and Interior Design with a minor in landscape design graduating in 1990. His architectural legacy spans across the country, including Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, and Las Vegas, with notable projects including Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN, Cass County Courthouse and Jail in Fargo, ND and the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, ND. After semi-retiring in August 2009, he continued as a self-employed architect on various projects.
A skilled boat captain and enthusiastic outdoorsman, Rick found joy in fishing and hunting excursions, where he formed lasting friendships and cherished the camaraderie with new companions. His passion for cooking made him the family's head chef, always eager to try new recipes and share meals with loved ones. Above all, Rick was known for his big heart and willingness to help others.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who served as a mentor to many. As a natural and trusted leader in all settings, Rick was known for always showing up for family and friends.
