The rich warm Tallahassee sunshine of late August 1954 was the first light on the path of Rick Hollahan's life. Born on the 25th of that month to Beverly and Dick Hollahan, Rick later became the older brother of Rex, born seven years after him.
Rick displayed early on the signature intelligence, wit, curiosity, and caring that became the hallmarks of his later life. He also had a strong sense of what he could contribute to the world. Rick started his college journey in pre-med, but sensing that medicine would not be the arena in which he could contribute the most, he graduated from Florida State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Biology.
Shortly before his brother Rex died at age 19 of lymphatic cancer, Rick changed his career course to Information Technology.
This was a choice that fit him perfectly. The pursuit of information and knowledge consumed Rick's life. Curiosity about the world was a constant for him. While he understood and cherished older technology, he was also an enthusiastic early adopter of the new. The vintage pinball machine named Bride of Pinbot and Siri were equally at home in his world.
To his parents and brother, Rick was a wonderful son. His time as a brother was over all too soon.
To Beth Antalik Hollahan, the woman he chose to hike beside him on his life path, Rick was the most amazing and fun person she had ever met. Beth and Rick joined their destinies in 1993 in the clear desert light of Sedona, Arizona. As a couple, this glow never left them.
To the lives of their children, Nicole and Jason, Rick brought inexhaustible energy and love. The entire world was their textbook;
whether it was from their family room or on a family trip, they never stopped sharing knowledge and never passed up a wicked roller coaster along the way.
Sports were also an arena where they felt their Dad's unwavering support, with Nicole in competitive swimming and Jason, with baseball and at long last, on the football field.
To his many colleagues during his decades in the Information Technology field, Rick was a mentor who quietly helped others become the consummate problem solver he himself was.
On November 22, 2021, his life ended much too soon. For his family, the priceless gift of having Rick in their lives is now the aching challenge of facing each morning without his presence. A gathering in his memory is planned for early next year, 2022.
Rick, you are loved to this day and will continue to be.
Your wife Beth and children Nicole and Jason will carry your imprint in their hearts forever. Your nieces Sarah Falchuk, Hannah Falchuk, and Cindy Antalik will never stop talking about you!
You also live on in the heart of your stepfather Chuck Green and your stepmother, Joyce Hollahan, and your cousins. You are now re-joining your parents, Dick and Beverly, and your brother Rex. The journey is complete.
Farewell, Rick.
For now.

Heartfelt sorrows, Beth, to you and your family.

I worked with Rick at GP and always appreciated his bright and resourceful mind. I was wandering about on my tablet today and something called upon me to Google Rick's name out of the blue to see what he was up to. What a shock.

Again, my prayers of comfort to you all for your loss.

My heart breaks for a life gone too soon and for Rick's loving family and friends. I didn't know Rick, but I know his wife Beth and how dear they were to each other. May memories and time heal and comfort.

We have lost a wonderful person but heaven has gained an angel. Rick will be greatly missed by so many. I would not be where I am today if it hadn't been for Rick. He taught me so much. I am forever grateful for the time we spent together. Praying for Beth, Nicole and Jason during this difficult time.
