It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Alan Horstmann, of Bonita Springs, Florida, and Cutchogue, New York. Born on October 30, 1944, in Queens, New York, to Herman D. "Dick" Horstmann and Adelaide (Knabbe) Horstmann, Richard passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Allison Horstmann Jones, who passed away on September 11, 2001.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Janet Jaskot. He is also survived by his children: Katherine Fitzsimmons and her husband, Jamie Fitzsimmons, and their children, Andrew, Elizabeth, Sara, Christian, Allison, Abigail, and Megan; Jennifer Shea and her husband James Shea, and their children, Kelson and Kensington; Frederick Horstmann and his wife Jennifer Horstmann, and their children Marlina, Sophia, Emery and Anderson; and Kimberly Becic and her husband, Steven Becic Jr., and their children, Iris and Steven III. He is also remembered by his former wife and the mother of his children, Beverly (Solt) Horstmann.
Richard grew up in the Ridgewood neighborhood of Queens, New York, and earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in economics and history from Lehigh University in 1966 and 1967, respectively.
While at Lehigh, Richard was an active member of the Delta Chi fraternity. He joined the ROTC and went on to serve as a Finance Officer and Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, stationed in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, from 1967 to 1968.
After his military service, Richard began his career at Citibank, where he worked in the Institutional Investment Division from 1968 to 1982. In 1982, he became a founding member of Thomson, Horstmann, and Bryant, an investment management firm that reflected his
entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence.
In 1968, Richard married Beverly (Solt), and together they welcomed the first of their five children in July 1970. Richard was an avid golfer and an active member of several golf clubs, including Roxiticus Country Club, Gardiners Bay Country Club, The North Fork Country Club, and The Nest Golf Club.
He especially cherished his time in Barefoot Beach, Bonita Springs, Florida, where he and Janet enjoyed frequent visits from family and friends. Summers were spent in Cutchogue, Long Island, a place he called home for more than 40 years. There, he found joy in visiting local
wineries, listening to live music, and spending time with family and friends. In recent years, Richard and Janet also delighted in traveling together, particularly on cruises through Europe.
Richard will be remembered for his intelligence, authenticity, and dedication to his family – a man whose brilliance and presence touched all who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 1-5pm on Sunday November 16th at Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham. Richard will be laid to rest at Hilltop Cemetery with a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's memory may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
