Richard L. Hughes

Richard "Rich" L. Hughes, 84, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Harleysville, PA went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.
He was the loving husband of Elizabeth Ann (Northrop) Hughes for 63 years. Rich was born in Elroy, PA to the late Paul R. Hughes and the late Eleanor (Seitz) Hughes.
He attended North Penn High School, class of 1957.
In his younger years, Rich was a former employee for Teleflex in North Wales, PA. In 1986, he was the founder and owner for B & R Packaging in Franconia, PA for more than 30 years.
Rich was a member of Immanuel Leidy's Church, Souderton, PA.
He was a founder of the Towamencin Athletic Association (now known as TYA) in Kulpsville, PA. Rich was a co-founder and first president of the North Penn Squires Football.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed working in the yard. Rich was active in coaching many youth sports, played golf, and enjoyed auto racing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Franke of Celebration, FL and Terri Bernardo & husband, James of Harleysville, PA; his three sons, Richard L. Hughes, Jr. & Beth of Perkasie, PA, Bryan P. Hughes & wife, Jennifer of Quakertown, PA, Mark D. Hughes & wife, Annette of Bechtelsville, PA; his ten grandchildren – Erin, Philip, Brendon, Daniel, Kathryn, Alicia, Krista, Kevin, Justin, and Dalton; and his nine great great-grandchildren – Cole, Max, Theo, Rhys, Hayes, Olivia, Jordan, Brinley, and Barrett.
In addition to his parents, Rich was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Charles "Buck" Franke and his granddaughter, Hope Renae Hughes.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm and on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 9:00 am - 10:00 am.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 10:00 am at Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 E. Broad St., Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964.
Burial will take place at Immanuel Leidy's Church Cemetery. A luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice.
