Richard (Rich) L. Jerger was born 21 June 1948 in Denver, CO to Ina Mae Jerger and Leslie Ewell Jerger. He died on the evening of 13 January 2025 surrounded with love from his wife of 46+ years, Carrie, and sons Aaron and Jason. Rich grew up in Denver with his mother, brother Dennis and sister Carol. Rich graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics from Saint Mary of the Plains College, Dodge City, Kansas. He joined the US Army during the Vietnam War assigned to the 18th Airborne Division, attached as a support group to the 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg, NC. He worked in the communication section which led to his fascination with IT and computers. After discharge in 1973, he returned to Denver and was hired by NCR. He was sent to Anchorage, Alaska as a Systems Analyst. He worked for them in both Juneau and
Anchorage where he then met his future wife and her 8-year-old son, Aaron. They "lived in bliss", according to Rich, and married in November 1978. In June 1981, son Jason was born and placed into his loving arms. Rich worked and explored the State of Alaska from Anchorage to Juneau, Nome to Ketchikan, Kodiak to Fairbanks, and points beyond. He serviced and installed computers, with software for medical, educational, financial, accounting, security, sales, networking, and cash registers throughout the State. He made lifelong friends wherever he went. Rich became an enthusiastic world traveler, often due to Carrie's travel for her work with the U.S. Twirling Association and the Alaskanette Baton and Show Corps. Countries included Japan, the U.S.S.R, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Mexico and Canada. He embraced each new country with open arms, including customs, history, cuisine, arts, and especially the people. He was steadfast in his belief and support that his sons become positive citizens of the world, in both perception and experience. He won an international "Customer Delight" award from NCR/ATT. Soon after that award, Rich was hired by Alaska's Northrim Bank where he served as Manager of the IT department, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer and Northrim Project Manager. He retired from Northrim in April 2012. Rich found joy in fishing, snowmachine riding, white water rafting, camping, RV travel. Rich loved Blues music in all its forms. He and Carrie and sometimes family attended Blues Festivals around the country including multiple Blues Cruises. He is survived by his wife, Carrie, sons Jason (Belinda) and Aaron (Megan), granddaughter Elysia (sunshine of his life), brother Dennis (Chris) CO, sister Carol (Joe) ID, and beloved family of his heart, Jason W, Kelly, Cayden, Susan (Kale), Robert (Jodeen), Suzi, Nico, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from the United States and beyond. More than anything else, Rich loved his time with his family and friends. He will be remembered fondly for his dimpled smile, bright blue eyes, sense of humor, wit, intelligence, common sense, generosity of spirit and his enthusiasm for adventure. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in his name to Alaska Public Media or Disabled American Veterans.
