Virginia Beach – Richard Milton John, born October 1, 1938 to Milton and Kathryn John passed away September 6, 2024 peacefully with his wife and sons by his side. He was born in Altoona, PA where he graduated from Altoona High School before enlisting in naval forces. He served in the naval forces from 1955 – 1983 aboard five different naval ships and many tours. He retired as an HMCM with a National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, Naval Commendation Medal, and Good Conduct Award. He was as well employed civil service with NECH from 1984 – 2004, where he inspected naval ship hospitals. He was a member of Plaza Baptist Church from 1976 – 2020, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He loved history, baking breads, crafting, wood working, photography, sudko, and cross word puzzles. He was a wealth of knowledge, always, eager to teach; was witty and quick with a sense of humor, very compassionate, and loved his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, and the best pap-pap ever.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia John; sons, Norman wife Cynthia, Kevin wife Andrea; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
A service will be held 11am, Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
