Richard H. Johnson, age 95, of Johnstown, NY, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, with his wife at his side.
Born on January 10, 1930, in Johnstown, N.Y, he was the son of the late Anson and Margaret (Sitterly) Johnson.
Richard retired after 35 years in various plant positions with the General Telephone Company (Verizon/Frontier). He worked for Palmer's Drug Store during and after high school.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy (Chirillo) Johnson, whom he married on November 7, 1998. Richard is also survived by his children, Nancy (David) Jones, and Stephen Johnson; his grandsons, Jesse and Lucas Hill; great grandchildren, Peyton, Casey Hill, Stella and Knox Hill; nephew, Nicholas Bauer; and special friends Frank and Tammy Malagisi.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his son, Timothy Johnson; sisters, Mary Catherine Paul, Patricia Hill, Diane Bauer, his nephew, David Paul, and his former wife, Nellie Johnson.
He was a graduate of Johnstown High School. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Johnstown and Gloversville and served as an usher and member of the pastoral committee. He enjoyed singing in the choirs of the Baptist and Methodist churches for many years.
Richard served in various capacities within the community - Member of the Board of Directors of the Johnstown Baptist Church; Member of the Administrative Board of the First United Methodist Church, Johnstown, NY; Member of the Board of Directors of the Caroga Lake Chapel. He was a First Aid Instructor for the Red Cross and taught photography classes. Richard volunteered for the Physical Therapy Department at the Wells House, Johnstown, N.Y. for many years.
Richard's many hobbies included cross-country skiing, sailing, canoeing, biking, hiking with Dorothy, and photography. He worked many years fixing up his camp at Caroga Lake and ultimately making it his home.
He was a devout Christian and a very loving and special person. He will be truly missed.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Monday, January 5, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Johnstown, NY 12095 a funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 12:00 PM.
Interment will be in the springtime at Johnstown Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G. Cole funeral Home Inc. 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, NY.

To my dear friend Dorothy and family
I enjoyed visiting with Richard during the times he was able to attend,
church. How he loved the Lord, Richard excepted and enjoyed visiting with all. He enriched my life through his friendship to me and my husband. I always enjoyed the times I was able to visit you both in your home and you would share your life stories. You are both very special folks and I thank you for your friendship.
