Richard Patrick "Dick" Kerivan has joined his brother Jim, brother-in-law Clint, and nephews Patrick and Dan Weddell in heaven on September 12th, 2025.
Richard is survived by his 2 children Joseph (Mindy) Kerivan of West Hartford, CT and daughter Jennifer Kerivan of Branford, CT, as well as his beloved grandchildren Aidan, Dylan & Chiarina Kerivan and his siblings; David W. Kerivan, Lisa M. Kerivan, Terri L. Kerivan (Spencer & Lynn (Belhumeur) Kerivan; Sophia, Christian & Milo Apiado), Tara M. Kerivan-Weddell; (Sean Weddell & Liam Weddell), Patricia A. Kerivan (John Walter; Katherine, Ashley & Deke Kerivan; Danny, Anastasia (Ginda), Johnny & Andy Walter; Michael, Jane (Frampton), Duncan & Everett Walter), Donald M. Kerivan and Mia M. Kerivan-O'Malley (John O'Malley; Connor, Shelby & Graham O'Malley; Maire & Dietrich O'Malley-Gunther; Fiona O'Malley).
He will always be remembered for his festive Christmas decorations, candid photography at family events, love of hosting and patriotic fireworks displays.
Richard was born in 1950 at Grand Coulee Dam, WA and was the oldest of eight children. He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth (Harkins) and Donald "Deke" Kerivan, as well as his brother Jim, brother-in-law Clint Weddell, and nephews Patrick & Dan Weddell.
Raised in Southwest Ohio, he was an accomplished track athlete at Centerville High School before attending and graduating from Ohio State University as an ROTC enrollee, US Army. After his formal training, he became a proud servicemen stationed in multiple US locations and also time stationed in Germany where he was an avid cyclist during the 1970s. Richard closed out his active military career at West Point, NY where he held an administrative position.
Richard spent much of his adult years in Bethel, CT where he was an Elected Member of Board of Selectmen in 1991 and fought for the extension of the town library. Richard worked in Supply chain management and worked for Lowes, Clairol, Procter & Gamble and Phillips. Richard enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren and enjoyed hosting and sharing his love of History and Astronomy books with them. He also enjoyed visiting his daughter at Hollandia and adding to his extensive Christmas collection. Richard was also an avid stamp and coin collector and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Audubon Society.
Throughout his life, Richard loved to read American history and always had a passion for photography. He enjoyed traveling New England, where he took many pictures, loved cooking, and had a natural inclination to participate in topics / activities related to science, construction, weather, and the shoreline. As a child in the 1950s, Richard became an admirer of space exploration.
He will be missed by many in his extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, his surviving uncle Daniel R. Kerivan, and his friends as well as patrons at the Brookfield Costco where he most recently brought smiles to many faces and will be long remembered there.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on October 11 at 10am at St. Mary's Church in Bethel, CT for all who would like to be present to celebrate Richard's life. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following. Richard's burial will take place in the near future in Arlington National Cemetery.
