Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - West County ChapelRichard J. Klapp, a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather whose life touched many, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, in Creve Couer, Missouri. Born on January 26, 1936, in East St. Louis, Illinois, Richard dedicated four decades of his life to banking at Bank of America, building not just a career, but lasting relationships along the way.
He was a loving husband to Marlene Klapp, with whom he shared countless cherished moments for 67 years. Their bond was a cornerstone of his happiness, and together they welcomed four children into the world: Rick Klapp, Mary Sue (Ross) Shelledy, Jody (Gary) Kaplan, and Kelly Klapp. Richard took immense pride in his family, celebrating their achievements and supporting them with unwavering love. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Ross Shelledy, Lex Kaplan, Courtney Kaplan, and Emily Heller, all of whom brought him tremendous joy and pride.
Beyond his professional life, Richard was a man of generous spirit. He was an active volunteer at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wentzville, Missouri, and dedicated time to helping others at the local hospital. His warmth and kindness were felt by many, and he leaves behind a community grateful for his contributions.
Richard had a zest for life that was evident in his hobbies and interests. He loved playing golf and spent joyful days boating on the picturesque Lake of the Ozarks. It was here that he and Marlene created lasting memories before settling in Wentzville. A true dog lover, Richard’s furry companions were an important part of his life, bringing him happiness and comfort.
Richard is also survived by his cherished sisters: Mary Jo (the late Dave) Wilson, Carol Anne (the late Fred) Brown, and Susan Colbeck. Richard was preceded in death by his son, Rick Klapp, and grandson, Nicholas Shelledy, both of whom remain forever in the hearts of those who love him.
A memorial gathering to honor Richard's remarkable life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, West County, located at 2211 Clarkson Road, Chesterfield, Missouri, from 11 AM to 1 PM.
