Richard J. LaHaie, 80, of Sterling, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, December 31, 2024, in his home. He was the loving husband of Doris (Ritchotte) LaHaie. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Leo LaHaie, Sr. and Vera (Granito) LaHaie.
Dick was a loving and dedicated husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather, who truly enjoyed his time with his family. Doris was the absolute love of his life; he cherished her beyond measure.
Dick was the owner of Sterling Plumbing and Heating, Inc., doing plumbing for over thirty-five years. He and his wife also owned and operated Sterling Built Homes. They built thirty eight homes making it possible to successfully further their two daughters education. He always looked to provide guidance to his daughters and "sons" when building their homes, working on projects, or helping his granddaughters.
Dick was an avid antique car enthusiast for many years until he and Doris found their next passion for traveling in their RV. They belonged to RV clubs and built many friendships along the way. Dick's greatest joy though, was being a "Poppy" to his granddaughters. He was extremely proud of his two girls. He enjoyed hearing about Bailey's growing farm and bakery business and Faith's funny stories about what the preschoolers said or did during her workday.
He will be immensely missed by his family. He will forever be remembered by his family as having a tender heart for his "girls" as well as being a thoughtful, caring, dedicated husband, dad, and poppy.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by two daughters, Sherri (Mark) Hirschboeck and Kimberly (Jeffrey) Smith; two granddaughters, Bailey Hirschboeck and Faith Smith; and one sister, Jacqueline Pierson of FL. He was predeceased by two grandsons, Jonathan and Dominick Smith.
