Richard Larson, 92, formerly of Beal City, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2026, in
Canton, Michigan. Richard was born in
Escanaba, Michigan on July 22, 1933, to Ed and Yvonne (Trottier) Larson. Ed was a fireman for the railroads while Yvonne was busy raising the family. Richard was the third of five children. He had two brothers, Robert and Jack and two sisters, Dorothy and Dolores. Because they lived in Escanaba and lived across the street from Lake Michigan, he enjoyed the water. He and his siblings swam in the summer and ice skated in the winter. Their mother knew where they were in the summer if the towels were off the clothesline. He enjoyed being with his family very much and was a loving, caring young man who enjoyed his life.
After graduation from Escanaba High School in 1951, he moved to Detroit looking for employment. He was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1953 and served in the Korean Conflict, but remained stateside. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He married Barbara Raymond and they were blessed with four sons: David, Thomas, Michael, and Donald.
Richard was employed by Detroit Edison Co. as a foreman at the Connors Creek Facility until it was closed. He was then transferred to the St. Clair Plant where he worked until his retirement. Richard used to tell his sons to turn off the lights, as he only worked for an electric company; he didn't own it.
During his employment with Detroit Edison, he travelled to many of its plants and enjoyed his time with the company very much. There was nothing better than traveling to Myrtle Beach with some of his fellow workers and spending time on the golf course.
In 1987, Richard met Micki Mobley in Troy through a friend. They married on September 23, 1989. They travelled to numerous places including Las Vegas, the Bahamas, Hawaii, a land tour and cruise to Alaska, plus many trips to the Upper Peninsula. They spent many winters in Arizona and Florida.
On Richard's 70th birthday, golfing with his sons, Mike and Don, he recorded his first hole-in-one at the Willow Metro Park in the Detroit area. He duplicated that feat on a course in Florida and at The Pines Golf Course at Lake Isabella.
After retiring, Richard and Micki moved to Lake Isabella where they joined The Pines Golf Course and had many happy days on the course. He joined the Weidman Lions Club and volunteered there for 18 years.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City and a member of the Beal City Knights of Columbus. When he was younger, he was always willing to help anyone in need.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Micki; sons, David Larson of Clinton Township, Thomas Larson of Inkster, and Michael (Jan) Larson of LaSalle; grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas, Tiffany, and Shawn; and great grandchildren, Fenix, Caroline, and Wyatt; and one great-great grandson, Michael Fenix; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald Larson; and all of his siblings.
A Funeral Mass for Richard will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City. Father Andy LaFramboise will preside. A luncheon will follow at the Beal City Knights of Columbus Hall. Richard will be cremated following the Mass and his cremains will be interred at St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Church.
