Richard Duane Lass was born on July 20, 1949, to Richard and Florence Lass in Moorhead, MN. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Moorhead High School before serving his country in the United States Army. He married his true love, Carol, on May 23, 1970 at St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville, MN, and together they were blessed with three sons.
Richard was a proud Army veteran, and his hardworking spirit was cultivated from his early days on the farm. His love for John Deere tractors – and all things mechanical – showcased his impressive skills as a gifted handyman who could fix just about anything. Throughout his career, he drove for Ames Sand and Gravel for 15 years, and transported fuel across the tri-state area for Service Oil for another 25 years. He embodied the true meaning of generosity by sharing his time and talents with others, always willing to lend a helping hand where needed.
Beyond work, Richard truly lived life to the fullest. Whether it was cruising on his motorcycle, zipping through the snow on his Arctic Cat snowmobile, or enjoying thrilling rides on ATVs, he found joy in every adventure. A passionate outdoorsman, Richard cherished time spent hunting and fishing, enjoying the peacefulness that time in nature brings. Richard was a steadfast friend, a true helper of others, and a shining example of how to embrace life.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Carol Lass; sons Patrick, Brian, and Korey Lass; brothers Dennis, Van (Beth), and Del (Jessica) Lass; sisters Carol (Larroll) Leach, Sandy Leach, and Peggy (Bob) Rezac; grandchildren Alex, Haiden, MayCie, Harper, and Jaylee, and great-grandson Brooks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Joe Leach; sister-in-law Sandy Lass; and daughter-in-law Mandy Lass.
