Richard Gordon Lichtenwalter, Jr., age 78, passed away on April 12, 2025, in Loomis, California. Born on October 14, 1946, in Sacramento, California, Richard lived a life marked by passion for music, devotion to family, and an unwavering love for his favorite sports teams.
A gifted sound engineer, Richard carved out a remarkable career in the music industry. His technical expertise and dedication earned him the respect of many artists-most notably James Brown, who would specifically request Richard's services whenever he performed nearby. Over the years, Richard became a trusted figure behind the scenes of countless live tours, navigating the highs and lows of the music world with professionalism and heart.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard held a special place in the lives of those around him. He was honored to be named the Godfather of Jeddrah Schmit, eldest daughter of Timothy B. Schmit. His loyalty and kindness left lasting impressions on friends and family alike.
Richard had a deep love for sports-especially football and basketball. He was a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Sacramento Kings, rarely missing a game and cheering passionately from wherever he was. Music remained a constant joy throughout his life; even after years on tour as an engineer, his appreciation for sound and rhythm never waned.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister Cheryl Ruth Lichtenwalter-Hiraoka; nieces Shara Tiana-Hiraoka Teague and Holli Brie Hiraoka-Hurst; and grand-niece Elora Satyana Teague. He was preceded in death by his mother Sara Mae Bedenbaugh and father Richard Gordon Lichtenwalter, Sr.
Known affectionately as "Dickey," Richard brought warmth and humor into every room he entered. He especially enjoyed teasing his younger sister Cheryl-a playful bond that reflected their close relationship. Though mischievous at times, he was never unkind. His favorite saying-"It is what it is"-captured his grounded outlook on life.
Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on through shared stories, cherished moments, and the enduring impact he made both personally and professionally.
We love you "Dickey," and you will be in our hearts forever. May your memory bring comfort to those who knew you. A Memorial Gathering will be held on May 31, 2025, from 09:30 AM to 02:30 PM at Loomis Basin Community Park (South) 3550 Ong Place Loomis, CA 95650. This will be a potluck event, so feel free to bring any food items you or Richard enjoyed.
We are not scheduling a specific service time, but if anyone would like to share with the group, we will plan on doing that around 12:00pm.
