Richard (Dick) Alan Litz, age 75 of Wexford, died on November 30, 2024. He was born September 4, 1949 to the late Betty Wiseman and the late William Litz. He was the beloved husband of Catherine Hovanec Litz for 54 years, after being high school sweethearts.
Dick was the devoted father to William "Bill", Andrew "Drew", and Jeffrey "Jeff" Litz, of McCandless Township. He is also Pap to granddaughters, Morgan Litz, Kiley and Amora McNeal-Litz.
Dick attended Munhall High School, after which he graduated from Vanderbilt University. He then got his Masters from Duquesne University. Dick taught for the Pittsburgh Diocese but spent the majority of his teaching career at North Allegheny School District from 1976 to his retirement. He taught at both Franklin Park and McKnight Elementary Schools. Dick loved his time in the classroom. He shared his joy of history with countless students who often told him how much they loved his story telling and humor.
Dick was also an accomplished musician, playing piano and guitar, and was recently learning the banjo, which was a gift from his son Drew. Dick played guitar with the Folk Group at St. Ferdinand Parish, part of the Divine Grace Parish in Cranberry, PA, since 1999. Another large part of his time was devoted to playing guitar with the North Allegheny Fiddlers since 2003 until his passing. His granddaughter, Morgan, was also a member of the NA Fiddlers, and they enjoyed playing together.
Dick loved traveling and spent many vacations at the beach and at Walt Disney World. Golfing, camping, and water sports were also some of his passions, along with spending many wonderful hours watching his son Jeff playing sports.
He will be sorely missed by his wife, Cathy, his sons, and his granddaughters. There is no viewing scheduled. A mass of Christian Burial and a memorial service are planned in the new year.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Ferdinand Folk Group, Divine Grace Parish, 2535 Rochester Road, Cranberry Twp., PA 16066 or NA Fiddlers, McKnight Elementary School; 500 Cumberland Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, Attn: Dennis Morton.
