It’s with great sadness that we share the passing of Mister. Richard F. Macander, age 89, a beloved long-time resident of Harvey, Illinois. Richard passed away on Thursday morning, January 22nd, 2026, in Crown Point, Indiana.
Richard and his brother Donald grew up in the family business with their father Joseph S. Macander. Who founded and established Macander T.V. back in 1936. Richard attended Saint John the Baptist School in Harvey Illinois through first grade until eighth grade. Richard also attended Thornton High School in Harvey and graduated in 1952.
Richard met Rosemarie Dorazio and they married and had four children. Beside Richard working for the family business he was a Police officer for the city of Harvey Police Department in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Richard also delivered newspapers for the Star Publications for many years. Richard loved to vacation and fish with his family in Ludington Michigan on Hamlin lake. He was a devoted family man, and he was devoted to his Catholic faith.
Beloved son of the late Joseph and Genevieve Macander. Husband of late Rosemarie Klich. (four children). Richard J. and late Lynn Macander. Late Lary and Karen Evans. Michael and (Anna) Macander. And Christine M Macander.
Grandfather of Late Matthew, Mark, Nickolas, Christopher, Peter, Elizabeth and Cole. Great Grandfather of Victoria, Sebastian, and Juanito. Loving brother of Late Donald S. and Late Barbara J. Macander. Barbara A. and Robert Haag.
Funeral Services Entrusted to Olen Funeral Home of Harvey: 15700 Emerald Ave., Harvey, IL 60426. Public Visitation for Richard Macander will be held on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Prayer Service to Commence at 11:00 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at Lord of Mercy Catholic Church (Formerly St. John the Baptist Church of Harvey) at 11:30 AM. Funeral Procession will be lead in Richard's Honor from Lord of Mercy Catholic Church to Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery of Calumet City.
Richard Macander’s life was marked by the profound joy of numerous friends, family, and relatives, as well as the satisfaction he derived from serving his customers with pride and enthusiasm in his work. From the cherished memories he created while working alongside his father during his youth, to his dedicated service to the Police Department, and his cherished vacations spent with those he held dear, let us never forget the enduring legacy he leaves behind. May his memories serve as a source of blessing and inspiration for all who were touched and cherished by his life.
