Richard (Dick) LaWar Madsen passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2025, at the age of 85. He was born on November 18, 1939, to Garney LaWar Madsen and Preal Hanks.

Dick was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa who cherished time with his family. His love for adventure and competition was evident in his passion for sand drag racing, hill climbs, and snow rally racing, where he became known for his skill and determination.

An avid outdoorsman, Dick found joy in hunting with his sons, nephews, and best friends. He also loved fishing, boating, camping, and anything that brought him closer to nature. Whether he was casting a line in a quiet lake or exploring the mountains, he was happiest in the great outdoors.

Dick was also an incredibly talented auto, diesel, and heavy equipment operator. His extensive knowledge of electrical and plumbing trades made him a true jack of all trades. One of his greatest accomplishments was building the family home in Taylorsville, Utah, with the help of family and good friends. He also loved taking long drives with his wife and spending time with his grandbabies, who were his pride and joy.

Dick's sense of humor, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed. He leaves behind a legacy of adventure, resilience, and cherished memories.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Yvette Jaterka Madsen, whom he married on July 23, 1971. Together, they built a beautiful family, blending his, hers, and ours-Julie (Kim), Sandi (Randy), Kenyon, Bryan (Martha), Jennifer (Delynn), Kristie (Justin), and Tony (Denie). He was also blessed with 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and siblings-Garney, Barbara, Faye, Chuck and Doug.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah.
