Matthew John Funk was born in Murray Utah on August 8, 1973. He was the older of the twins, Michael coming in second.
He passed away on October 7, 2025 at IMC after having undergone surgery.
For many years it was impossible to tell the twins apart unless you were looking at them face to face. From the side and rear, they looked exactly alike and would often play tricks like trading their clothing so that people would call them by the wrong name, thinking they had identified them by what they were wearing.
Michael and Matthew were best friends. They seldom disagreed but if they did, Matthew was the peacemaker.
Scouting provided their place of belonging in life. They were scheduled to attend the National Jamboree one year when they were offered the opportunity to work at Scout Camp Evergreen. They chose to work over going to the Jamboree and from then on they worked at camps almost every summer. After working in Utah for several years they branched out to camps in Oregon, Wisconsin, Michigan, Idaho, California, Wyoming, and South Dakota.
They also participated in Civil Air Patrol and had great experiences with Major Hemingway who flew them around and even let them take the controls of the airplane.
Together they attended travel school, worked for the airlines, for Disney in Florida and in New Hampshire at their sisters' bakery.
Their other love was anything Star Trek. They went to numerous conventions and collected autographed photos of the stars.
Matthew served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Seattle Washington mission.
Matthew married Becky Parker (they were later divorced) and they have a son, Colton.
Matthew has experienced significant health problems the last few years of his life and his passing has relieved him of the many challenges both mentally and physically that he endured.
He is survived by his son Colton, his Mother Arla, a sister Christine(Brian) and Melvin(Julie).
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
