Richard Matney

RICHARD MATNEY, 68, of the Brushy fork section of Grundy, VA, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026, at his home following a courageous battle with black lung. Born in Grundy, VA, he was the son of the late Robert and Edna (Justus) Matney. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of Stacy Church of God. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a retired coal miner. Richard enjoyed riding four wheelers, spending time in the outdoors and piddling around doing mechanical work.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Brothers: Jerry Matney, Ira Matney, Herman Matney, Ray Matney and Carter Matney; Sisters: Lorraine Matney Keen, Shirley Stacy, Geraldine Wilmer and Wilma Blankenship.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Aurelia Jo (Ramey) Matney of Grundy, VA; Children: Helena (Justin) Stacy of Hurley, VA, Billy Kaden Matney of Grundy, VA; Grandson Chase Michael Reed Stacy; Sister: Christine Stacy of Blountville, TN; Sisters-in-Law: Carol Matney and Carol Sue Matney.

Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M.

Funeral Services for RICHARD MATNEY will be conducted Friday, April 3, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Ashby and Ronald Lester officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Active Pallbearers will be family and friends.
