Carol Retha (Ratliff) Hutchinson, 87 years of age, of Grundy, VA, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026. Born in Grundy, October 29, 1938, she was the daughter of the late James Lawson Ratliff and Lou Amy (Stiltner) Ratliff. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Carol was a member of Vansant Church of Christ and was formerly employed at Buchanan General Hospital as a CNA and security guard. During her time as a homemaker, she filled her day with numerous favorite activities including reading her Bible, writing poetry and fulfilling her greatest enjoyment as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Hutchinson; sisters, Lydia Myrtle Thompson, Mary Dorothy Stevenson, Stella June Mullins, Nellie Gay Coffey, and infant sister Zadie Marie Ratliff; and brothers, Infant Lonnie Ervin, James Ellis and Jessie Ferrell.

She is survived by one daughter, Teresa Carol Cole (David), of Winter Haven, FL; three sons, Terry Franklin (Karen) Hutchinson, Randy Duane Hutchinson and Bradley Keith (Tracey) Hutchinson, all of Grundy; four grandchildren, Nick (Heather) Hutchinson, Jordan (Alex) Hutchinson, Amanda (Kevin) Cunningham and Reilly Hutchinson; two great-grandchildren, Parker (Chloe) Hutchinson and Baylor Hutchinson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Carol Retha Hutchinson will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy, VA, with Evangelist Mike Rife officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Serving as active pallbearers will be her sons, and Jordan Hutchinson, Nick Hutchinson, Shawn Mullins, John Deel, Kaden Vanover and Greg Barnett.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
