Richard Leroy McCarrick, affectionately known as Dick to his friends and family, passed away on May 18, 2025, at the age of 69, in his hometown of Lansing, Michigan. Born on March 10, 1956, Dick's life was a testament to his kind, friendly, and thoughtful nature.
After dedicating 30 years of hard work on the line for General Motors, Dick retired but remained active, channeling his love for automobiles and people into a second career. He spent his retirement years driving the courtesy vehicle and delivering parts for Capital Honda and Grand Ledge Ford before he retired a "second time."
Dick was a masterful Euchre player, whose strategic brilliance and good humor at the card table were unmatched. His love for games extended to frequent, spirited trips to his favorite casino, "MoneyKeepers". Dick was an avid sports fan, cheering loudest when a MSU Spartans, Detroit Lions, or Detroit Tigers game was on. He also had the capability of providing a pack of gum whenever it was needed.
During his younger days he was an avid outdoorsman. Dick found solace and excitement in hunting and golfing, pursuits that allowed him to appreciate nature's beauty and challenge himself. However, his greatest passion was undoubtedly his grandchildren. He poured his heart into their lives, attending sporting events as their most enthusiastic fan, celebrating their birthdays with thoughtful cards, and spending countless hours engaged in Monopoly marathons. His attention to detail in their lives, from their triumphs to their everyday joys, was a source of endless love and encouragement.
Dick was preceded in death by his late wife Velma McCarrick (2024) and his mother Martha Jean (Jolly) McCarrick.
Dick is survived by his father and step-mother parents Richard and Lolly, three children, Chad (Heather) McCarrick, Brad (Heather) McCarrick, and Christa (Mike) Maldonado; his step-children, Kristin (Jason) Jones-Rogers, Chris (Tiffany Jackson) Jones; grandchildren, Nick, Zander, Lucas, Alexa, Marcus, Carly, Michael, Tyler, Jenna, Devin, Kaitlin, Matthew, Emma, Hunter, and Leon (Mikayla). Dick is also survived by his siblings, Bob McCarrick and Connie (Ray) Dalman, a stepsister Tara (Richard) Sartor, along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel with Pastor Richard Perkins officiating. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear their favorite sportswear or teams' colors. Visitation will begin on Saturday at the funeral home at 11:00 AM until the time of service. Following the service a luncheon will be provided at Capital City Baptist Church, where Euchre will be played in Dick's honor. Due to storm damage, interment will take place at a later date in Deepdale Memorial Park.
Dick's absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, his genuine interest in the wellbeing of others, and his unwavering support for his loved ones will continue to inspire and comfort those he has left behind.

So sorry to hear about Dick´s passing. I worked and bowled with him years ago. He was a great guy with a great sense of humor. Prayers for his family.
