Richard E. McCarthy, 70 of Westborough, a lifelong resident of Natick, passed away on Sunday, June 01, 2025.
Born and raised in Natick, Richard was a proud graduate of Natick High School, where he was a standout athlete, holding many of the school's passing records – until a kid named Doug Flutie came along and broke them. He went on to attend Bridgton Academy in Maine and later continued his education at Framingham State.
A true New Englander, Richard was a die-hard sports fan through thick and thin. He loved all the region's teams, but the Sox held a special place in his heart (and occasionally broke it). He rarely missed a game and often made his opinions known, even if only to the TV.
He spent several years working with Auto Glass Installers of Natick and was known for his strong work ethic, sharp wit, and ability to talk sports with just about anyone.
Richard is survived by his beloved daughter, Shawna McCarthy of Natick; his sister Judi Striebel and her husband Steve of New York, NY; his brother Tom McCarthy, and his wife Karen Sandwich, MA; his niece Melissa Maher of Newport Beach, CA and his nephew, Justin Striebel of Brooklyn, NY.
He will be remembered for his love of sports, deep ties to his hometown, sharp sense of humor, and his unwavering love for his family. His stories, laugh, and wisecracks will be deeply missed.
A private ceremony for his family will be held at St. Michael in Boston.
