Richard Earl Miears was born on January 10, 1948 in
Kerrville, TX to Ira and Mary Lee Miears. He entered into God's hands on December 28, 2025 in
San Antonio, TX. He is survived by his wife, Emily, children Jennifer (children Sonya and Alyssa), Eric (wife Bobbie, child Toni), and Michael (wife Sarah, children Will and Kaylee), his brother Al (wife Debbie) Hollimon. He is predeceased by his father Ira, his mother Mary Lee, step mother Jewel "Jo", sisters Barbara and Florence, and brother Wayne.
Richard, known as Dickie to family and friends, will be remembered for his huge smile and contagious laugh, his many jokes, and making friends wherever he went. Soon after graduating from Andress High School in El Paso (1965), Dickie and his brother Al joined the Navy to serve in Vietnam (1968-1969). He was proud to have served his country and actively participated in making sure democracy lives on. After his military service, he joined his father Ira in the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 142 and retired after many years of hard work. Dickie worked on numerous projects around San Antonio, including the Alamodome. He married the love of his life, Emily, on November 25, 1977 and was a devoted husband to her, demonstrating his vows every day. Together they became members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, and his faith was very important to him. He loved worship service, especially singing his favorite hymns. Singing in the car was also a family passion, many car rides were spent singing to the oldies on KONO. During his children's school years, Dickie was happy to be part of their activities. He attended many dance recitals, served on PTAs, booster clubs, and in his most favorite role, he was president of the John Marshall Ram Band Boosters. He enjoyed cooking the fajitas at the fundraisers and going to all the football games and band events. Seeing his children be successful was a great joy, he was especially proud of his sons' military service. He also was part of the Watch Dogs program at his grandchildren's elementary school. Dickie enjoyed pitching on multiple softball teams, bowling and fishing. He lived in many places around the country, but always came back to San Antonio, loving the city (and the Spurs!). Also an avid Cowboys, Rangers, and Texas Longhorns fan, Dickie loved watching "his" teams and cheering them on. He enjoyed family dinners, getting together with his children and extended family whenever he could. His love was boundless and if you met him, you were instantly comfortable and knew you found someone special. Dickie will be deeply missed by all who know him, his memory and his smile will live on in our hearts.
