Our beloved "Pops," Richard D. Moody, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025, surrounded by his wife and daughters, whom he deeply cherished. He was born in Wilmington, DE on July 26, 1942, to Helen and Samuel D. Moody. Richard graduated from White Plains High School in 1960. He was a 1964 graduate of Norwich University in Vermont where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. From 1965 to 1967, Richard served his country in the U.S. Army in Alaska, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He went on to achieve his Master's Degree in Science at Union College in Schenectady, NY.
Richard inspired countless students with his passion for teaching. He spent 29 years shaping young minds as a 7th-grade Life Science teacher at Shenendehowa School District in NY.
Richard had a lifelong love for bird watching, trains, woodworking, and his cherished puzzle collection, which he lovingly curated over decades. He was an active member of several organizations, including the Mohawk Valley Railway Society, Mohawk Hudson Bird Club, Northeast Woodworkers Association, and the Association for Games & Puzzles International. Richard was a storyteller and a jokester known for his quick wit and mischievous sense of humor.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Eleanor Moody; his daughters, Terri Sherman (Dave Axenfeld) and Kelli Currey (Matt); and his adored grandchildren, Kyle Sherman, Zachary Sherman, and Leah Currey. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Marie Woodruff (Pete); his nephew, Jon Woodruff (Erin); and great-niece, Josephine. He is predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Helen Moody, and his first wife, Joan (Dunlop) Moody.
He found endless joy in spending time with his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed. May we all strive to live as he did-with a curious mind, an open heart, and a life full of love and laughter.

Mr Moody was my science teacher in 1983. He was the most amazing teacher that I have had and he planted a seed for learning for me. He had a filing cabinet full of science articles from magazines and we could come in early to read any article that interested us and then talk with him about what we had read. I have never forgotten his gentle and humorous teaching methods. He inspired me to go on to attain my BA in Biology. I have gone on to have a career in science that has taken me all around the world. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. The loss of a great man who dedicated so much to his students. Thank you, Mr. Moody and may you rest in peace.

My condolences to Dick's family. I was the secretary at the school when Dick was a science teacher......he would invite me to come to his classroom at times when the subject was interesting to me. I would be amazed at how he would teach...he was a wonderful man and a wonderful teacher. Rest in Peace Dick.
