It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Charles Moore, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He left this world on Friday, February 21, 2025 at age 83. Richard was born on July 26, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the third and youngest child of Elvin Raymond Moore and Nellie Olsen Moore. He graduated in 1959 from Tech High and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1969.
Richard was a man of kindness, integrity, and unwavering love for his family. He dedicated his life to building not only remarkable structures, but also strong relationships filled with love and laughter.
As a talented Civil Engineer, he played a role in shaping the skyline of Des Moines, Iowa, by contributing to the construction of the tallest building in the city at that time. He also worked on bridges, airports, water towers, the 1996 Olympic games, and the Aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia. He was instrumental in designing and building an official Soap Box Derby racetrack for the children in Iowa.
Beyond his professional success, Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished every round of golf, whether with friends or family, always appreciating the challenge and camaraderie the game brought. He loved boating, especially sailing, traveling, painting, camping, hot dogs and campfires. His greatest love was his wife, Barbara, with whom he made many beautiful memories over 60 years.
He was a proud and devoted father to his two sons, Michael Moore from Spokane, Washington, and Jeffrey Moore (wife Ana) from Panama City Beach, Florida. His love extended to his two grandsons, James and Jon, also from Washington. They will forever remember his lessons of kindness, perseverance, honesty and generosity.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents and by his older brother, Dr. Raymond Moore. He is survived by his wife, sons, grandchildren, and sister, Rosalie Blakesley (Rex), and several nieces and nephews.
Although he struggled for many years with pain and numerous health issues caused by Scleroderma, a chronic autoimmune disease, his memory will inspire others to keep pushing forward and always do your best. He led a Scleroderma Support Group for several years where he met many incredible people.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, March 7th at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan, Georgia. Visitation with family will begin at 1:00, music by his fellow dulcimer players at 1:30, and the service at 2:00. The service will be live streamed by going to mckoon.com and click on Richard's name.
Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.mckoon.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National Scleroderma Foundation, Southeast Chapter in memory of Richard Moore.

Barb and family, I did not know Dick well but heard good stories about him and your family from Cyndy. He had a remarkable life and contributed so much of his engineering talents to Des Moines and his love to his family and friends. Please accept my deepest sympathies as you celebrate Dick´s life.
